CTC WITCHES' CURSE CHALLENGE RIDE & SPORTIVE
(Ribble Valley Town of Clitheroe)
Sunday 9th September 2012
Welcome to the newest sportive in the CTC Challenge Ride Series.
The Witches? Curse is definitely one for the climbers and don?t let the distances fool you. The long route may only be 68 miles but it contains over 7,500 feet of climbing. The shorter 45 mile route still has nearly 5,000 feet of climbing which is much more than your average longer distance event.

The long route at 68 miles may seem short for a sportive but with over 7500feet of climbing this is a frightening test for even the best climbers. There are 15 recognised named climbs to be tackled with two feed stops to keep everyone?s energy levels to the max. Even the short route at 45 miles is a tough test packing in nearly 5000feet of climbing, so there is no easy route to take. If the climbing takes it?s toll on the day fear not as the courses have been designed so that no point is more than 10 miles from start/finish.
Based on the Ribble Valley Town of Clitheroe, with very easy transport links by road or train, ample free parking near the start/finish, this sportive will soon become a Classic event and with only 400 entries available in the first year a sell out is guaranteed.
Registration will follow the old continental traditions of signing on in the local cafe and starting and finishing in the Market Square. The event will be fully signed, timed, mechanical support on route and at the HQ, broom wagon, 2 feed stops and a snack on your return to the finish, all included in the entry fee of ?17 for CTC members and ?27 for non members.
The event is ideal training for the first big ride of the year in Cheshire 1 week later.
This event also sees the launch of the new Shimano Test Wheel Fleet, giving entrants an opportunity to try out Shimano?s top end wheels during the sportive for free just register and hopefully you are lucky to get your choice of wheels for the ride. For more details see the separate registration page.
The signing on to collect your number and timing chip will be at Blueberries Cafe from 08.00 and the start will be between 09.00 and 09.30 for both routes. In return for your timing chip you will receive a food voucher for your after ride snack in Blueberries, and a certificate with your time. Please note timing will close at 4pm.
Entries are limited to 400 this year so enter early to ensure your place on this Classic.
