Ron was not only a star racing man but grew his business so that it became one of the world's largest import / export businesses of cycling equipment. He also played a major part in the formation of the York Rally. The ride includes some of Ron's favorite roads over the North Yorkshire Moors.

The route across the Howardian Hills and the North Yorks Moors both teases and rewards with a couple of 16% climbs with the delightful village of Hovingham (bakery and tea rooms) in between. The 100km route takes riders up on to the moors before dropping into Hutton-le-Hole and on to Marton. The 150km route tackles the climbs of Farndale and the savage Blakey Bank. After a stop at Danby Moors Centre, the route climbs back over the moors before dropping into Rosedale where the adventurous can take the option of the Chimney, a genuine 33% climb. From there it's a lumpy run through the grounds of Castle Howard and back to the attractions of the York Cycle Show.
Final instructions will be published on the website and emailed out to each entrant on the Thursday after entries close at midnight on the Wednesday before the event

FINAL INFORMATION
RON KITCHING CHALLENGE AND SPORTIVE RIDE SATURDAY 23RD JUNE 2012
Welcome to the third ride in this year?s Challenge Ride series, again the Ron Kitching Ride will be part of the CTC York Show, starting and finishing at York Racecourse in the centre of York.
Please follow the signs to the race course and then the car park signs for the CTC show. Your email confirmation allows you entry to the Show grounds, and then follow the signs for the Ron Kitching Ride, which will take you to registration to collect your ride number.
The rides will start between 08.00 to 08.30, in small groups at minute intervals and the route is fully signed with the blue CTC arrows with additional warning signs which we ask all riders to adhere to for their safety along with other road users.
There will be 2 feeds for both routes at 25miles and 36miles on the short and 25miles and 62 miles for the long route. The second feed will be again run by the ladies of the WI and their cakes are the best and well worth the stop. We will again supply HIGH5 products at both feeds, as well.
We hope that all long route riders will attempt the Rosedale Chimney route this year but can bale out if they wish. Please note there will be only limited signage off route.
ROUTE TIMINGS.
Please note the first feed will close at 10.45am and the access to the long route will close at 11.30, after this time we ask all riders to follow the short route signs.
The second feed will open at 11.00am and close at 3.30 pm for both rides.
Timing will close at 6.00pm.
We will again have a mechanical back up en route and a broom wagon for terminal bike failures. (Please note all riders are expected to make minor repairs and mend punctures, and carry spare tubes)
Please take a note of the emergency numbers at registration and can we remind everyone that mobile phone reception is poor on parts of the route and therefore if you cannot contact us please pass a message to a fellow rider to contact us on your behalf.
On your return we will have a recovery snack to replenish your efforts and you can collect your certificate at the same time.
Please have a safe and pleasant ride and please remember the ride is not a race and the Highway Code must be obeyed at all times, please be courteous to fellow riders and road users at all times.
