This classic event started when the Tour of Britain started in Worcester in 2007 and we have followed most of the original route but added our own bits to make it even tougher.

TRIBUTE TO CYCLING LEGEND RON KITCHING

The classic Malvern climb followed by Ankerdine still feature but the route then takes in Stanhope Bank before Tenbury Wells and a short excursion into Shropshire before returning to tackle the ?killer option? of Wynniattes Way (a 25% monster) but only if you want to!!

After the feed point supplying energy drinks, bars, gels, fresh fruit and cake, which is visited twice there are five more listed climbs before returning to Worcester and a hot meal to replenish your energy stores.

The start and Finish is at Worcester racecourse in the centre of Worcester with an easy run in and out of the City and a cycle route finish to avoid the traffic.

There are 2 main sportive routes available a full 92 miler and a shorter 64 miler, there is a feed for the shorter route and the 2 stops for the long ride (30mile and 60miles approx) same location.

Wheels and Wheels will operate their well proven signage plus extra warning signs when required and the ?Killer Option? will be clearly marked for those wishing to attempt the climb the distance difference is less than 1 mile.

There will be a service bike, NEG outriders and a broom wagon should your legs fail you or for terminal mechanicals.

Signing ?on will start at 07.00 am on Sunday to collect your timing cards and bike numbers for recognition, so our photographer can capture your efforts en route.

The start will be from 08.30 to 09.00 for both rides and the start will be in small groups of 10-15, at minute intervals.
The extensive car parking is by Registration in the centre of the Racecourse so please follow the signs to the HQ/Registration.

Final Instructions

Welcome to the final ride of the 2012 CTC Challenge ride series, starting and finishing in Worcester.

Please follow the brown information signs to the Racecourse in the centre of town and then follow the Cycle event HQ and Car Park signs to take you to the Centre Pavilion for registration.

Registration will not open before 07.30 and closes at 09.00. Please sign on and collect your ride number and timing card, for each route and display your number on the front of your cycle so we and our photographer can recognise you enroute. Tea and coffee will be available at signing on.

Both rides will start from 08.30 and last rider can leave at 09.00. Riders will be allowed to leave in small groups of 10-15 maximum, so Teams wishing to ride together please organise yourselves to arrive at the timing clocks in your group.

Please follow the CTC blue arrows which will be situated at each turn and every mile, please adhere to the warning signs placed at various points around the route for your safety and to warn oncoming traffic. There will not be any route cards or maps for this year?s route. GPX files are available on line.

Please bring your timing card to the start and we will clock you out onto the route and we will keep the card for the record and clock back in and produce your certificate for collection after your ride meal.

There will be a FEED stop at the Hundred House at Great Witney, and this will visited twice on the long route and once on the shorter ride. There will energy drinks and gels, cake, bananas and a range of savouries. The Hotel will be selling teas and coffees if required.

The feed is at 37miles and 68 miles (long route only)

PLEASE NOTE THE LONG ROUTE WILL CLOSE AT 12 NOON AT THIS POINT and riders will not be allowed onto the long route and diverted on to the shorter ride.

The feed stop is also the ROUTE SPLIT so please ensure you set off in the correct direction and right route.

LONG ROUTE INFORMATION

At 67miles there is the famous ?Killer Option? of Wynniattes Way a 25% climb well known in the area and a great test for the climbers. It is an option and is only a mile longer to complete it.

If you do not wish to attempt the climb follow the signs to take you to the feed.

ROUTE INFORMATION

After your last visit to the feed you will reach a very dangerous descent with a FORD at the bottom on the descent. This will be heavily signed and currently is just ride able and there is a footbridge as an option. PLEASE ADHERE TO THESE WARNING SIGNS Please check the notice board at the start for up to date information on the route condition.

The final miles follow a local cycle route through a park and onto the Racecourse to avoid the main roads, please take care to check you are on route when arriving back into Worcester. These paths are shared with walkers and other cyclists and bring you past the main racecourse grandstand. You will have to re-cross the racecourse back to the timing point and finish.

Please collect your food ticket and a meal will be served in Registration (vegetarian option available only) and please collect your CTC gift at the same time.

Any riders abandoning the ride for any reason must inform the emergency numbers so we can inform the timing
We will have a motorcycle enroute with basic medical and mechanical backup, but we expect all riders to carry out minor repairs such as punctures themselves. We will have spares wheels located around the route if required. There is a broom wagon for more terminal breakdowns.

In the event of an accident if minor contact us, if it is deemed more serious please contact the emergency services and inform us of the riders details or ride number.

Please have a safe and enjoyable ride and adhere to the HIGHWAY CODE at all times, we reserve the right to remove riders from the event breaking the rules.
